Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 9-20-16, Approximately 3:29 AM Place of Occurrence: County JailVictim Information: Jordan Benjamin Turner, 36, Paso RoblesSuspect Information: N/AOn 9-20-16, during a scheduled check of inmates at the County Jail, Correctional Deputies found a male inmate, unresponsive without a pulse, on his bunk in his single occupancy cell. A large cut was noticed on the inside of his left arm above his elbow. Correctional Deputies immediately began CPR and an ambulance was requested. Registered nurses with the Jail's medical staff assisted with CPR until paramedics arrived. Paramedics continued with CPR but the patient remained unresponsive and he was later pronounced deceased.
The inmate is identified as 36-year-old Jordan Benjamin Turner of Paso Robles. Turner had been booked into County Jail by Morro Bay Police on 9-16-16 for DUI charges and felony reckless driving without regard for safety.
Turner was medically pre-screened before entering the jail and at that time Turner stated he was not suicidal, nor was there any indication he had suicidal tendencies.
On 9-19-16, Turner had requested a razor so he could shave before his scheduled court appearance the next day. A safety razor is a standard issued item for those inmates who are scheduled to appear in court.
While the inmate was housed in the cell, Correctional Deputies performed a check on Turner at approximately 3:07 AM and then performed another check at approximately 3:29 AM when they noticed no change in his position on the bunk with a blanket covering his body.
At this time, it's believed Turner took his own life by making a deep cut to his arm with the razor. Sheriff's Detectives are conducting an investigation into this death. No foul play is suspected. The last recorded suicide in the jail was in 2005.
No further information is available at this time.
