The two men had been arguing over personal issues for some time. Martinez entered the victims mobile home just before 9:00 PM, and an argument ensued with the victim being slashed on the back and arm. Martinez then fled the area. Deputies found the knife nearby and later located Martinez who was taken into custody without incident and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
