The license plate was identified as a stolen car from the Fresno area.
At 11:08 PM Monterey Sheriff broadcast an update on the wanted car that now included attempt murder for a separate shooting near the Whale Watcher Inn in Gorda.
San Luis Obispo deputies began to take up a position south bound on Highway 1 near Ragged Point to intercept the fleeing suspects. The vehicle was spotted approximately twenty minutes after the reported incident in Gorda. Two patrol units and a supervisor attempted to stop the suspects on Hwy 1 south of downtown San Simeon. The suspects initially yielded as the deputies began a high risk vehicle stop. As the deputies had the suspects at gun point, the driver put the vehicle back in gear and made a turn back toward one of the deputies. Other deputies opened fire on the car in an attempt to protect the deputy who took cover behind a patrol unit. The vehicle fled several hundred feet south on Highway 1, where it came to rest and the five suspects were taken into custody without further incident.
One of the suspects received a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.
Exact number of charges, identification of suspects and final booking location are pending.

Shortly before 10:00 PM Sunday, deputies from coast station received a report from Monterey County Sheriff of an attempt armed robbery with shots fired in the Grimes Point area near Big Sur. The vehicle apparently matched the description of a stolen car that authorities in Pacific Grove attempted to stop for minor traffic violations earlier and lost in a pursuit.
