Bell had gone missing on 8-11-12. He had last been seen leaving his house in the 1500 block of Stuart Street in Cambria to walk his chocolate Labrador Retriever dog "Kiki." Bell suffers from dementia and Parkinson’s disease. At that time, the Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team, Sheriff's deputies, a Sheriff's K-9 unit, Santa Barbara and Kern County Search and Rescue Teams, State Parks Rangers, a CHP helicopter, the Cambria Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Sheriff's Commander Jim Voge and Sheriff Ian Parkinson, along with many local citizens became actively involved in the search. Bell was taken to the hospital with some minor cuts and scrapes. His dog Kiki also received a cut on its paw. At this time, the Sheriff's Office would like to encourage everyone to register their cell phone with the reverse 911 system to receive important information and alerts for incidents like this one. Residents can register their cell phones by accessing the Sheriff's Office website. Also, the Sheriff's Office would like to encourage caregivers of at-risk adults to enroll them in Project Lifesaver, a program designed to safely and quickly locate those who wander from their homes. More information on this program can also be found on the Sheriff's Office website.
