Suspected Road Rage Incident, Suicide

Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781 4547Date and time of incident: 8-7-13, Approximately 9 PMPlace of Occurrence: 100 block Hondonada Road, Arroyo GrandeVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: Robert Hernandez, 56, Avila BeachOn 8-7-13, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding a report of shots fired at a pickup truck in the 100 block of Hondonada Road in rural Arroyo Grande. Detectives believe the incident began when a car driven by Robert Hernandez was attempting to turn left onto Appy Way off Lopez Drive when a pickup truck attempted to pass Hernandez on the right shoulder of the road. This escalated into a road rage incident with a gunshot fired at the truck. No one was hurt. Deputies were able to locate the car and Hernandez nearby at a house in the 100 block of Shelby Way. Detectives and deputies surrounded the house. At approximately 10:30 PM, Hernandez came out of the house and took his own life with a firearm. This case is currently under investigation. No further details are being released at this time.
