Contact: Watch CommanderPhone: (805) 781-4553Date and time of incident: 10-17-12 at 10:16 PMPlace of Occurrence: South Frontage Road at Tefft Street in NipomoVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: Ruben Jay Rivera, 28 years old, NipomoOn 10-17-12 at 10:16 PM, Sheriff's Deputies initiated a traffic stop at the service station island area at the Nipomo Chervron Station located at the above location. The stop was initiated for traffic violations and suspicion that the driver had outstanding arrest warrants. After initially stopping, the driver accelerated out of the service station, failing to yield, and initiated a pursuit. The driver, subsequently identified as Ruben Jay Rivera, proceeded approximately 160 yards on South Frontage Road where upon attempting to navigate his vehicle on an off-road embankment, lost control and became stuck in the sand. The driver immediately fled from the scene on foot and into a neighboring yard. With the assistance of the California Highway Patrol, a Sheriff's K-9, and patrol deputies, a subsequent search of the cordoned off yard resulted in Rivera's apprehension without incident. Rivera was arrested and booked into County Jail for felony pursuit, resisting arrest, and an outstanding local misdemeanor warrant.

During the suspect's flight, his entry into a neighboring yard resulted in the unintentional release of the property owner's four (4) Chihuahua dogs. Any member of the public with information related to the location of the missing dog(s) in the Nipomo area is encouraged to notify Sheriff's Dispatch at (805) 781-4550.
