Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public/Street Gang Enhancement

Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 7-28-12 Approximately 1 AMPlace of Occurrence: Paso RoblesVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: Dustin Angel Fernandez, 20, Paso Robles Lauro Robert Valenzuela, 27, Paso Robles On 7-28-12, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Deputies stopped a GMC pickup truck for traffic violations at the corner of South River Road and Niblick Road. During a search of the pickup, deputies discovered a .22 caliber revolver and ammunition. The passenger in the truck, Dustin Angel Fernandez was arrested and charged with possession of a loaded firearm in public along with a street gang enhancement. The driver of the truck, Lauro Robert Valenzuela was arrested and charged with a probation violation. Both suspects are known Norteno gang members living in the city of Paso Robles. On the previous night, 7-27-12, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Gang Task Force assisted the Paso Robles Police Department with the investigation of a shooting that occurred in the 3300 block of Spring Street. It's unknown at this time if the suspects were involved in that shooting. The Gang Task Force continued its investigation and were able to obtain a search warrant for a residence in Paso Robles on 8-2-12. The Gang Task Force located a 12 gauge shotgun thought to belong to Fernandez. Both suspects have been booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail. Booking photos release authorized.
