Contact: Rob BrynPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 9-21-10 NoonPlace of Occurrence: Templeton CAVictim Information: Two 15 year old malesSuspect Information: Quinn Alister Hall DOB: 12-15-91Two fifteen year old Templeton boys were treated at Twin Cities Community Hospital on 9-11-10 after ingesting a substance known as "Mephedrone" a synthetic, psychoactive stimulant. The two boys were experiencing symptoms of sore throat, violent vomiting, euphoria, elevated body temperature and agitation.
Sheriff's narcotics detectives arrested Quinn Alister Hall, 18 of Templeton, a freshman at Cal Poly for allegedly providing the substance and selling it as similar to the drug ecstasy. Hall was taken into custody without incident on 9-21-10 after investigators traced the drug sales to him.
Doctors believe the substance caused small holes to appear in the lungs of the patients causing air to escape and vent to the skin. The condition could also cause an embolism in the blood stream.
The drug appears to be a fine white powder or in some cases off white.
Persons are warned that this product is relatively new to the United States with cases in North Dakota and Oregon.
The product may be mixed in liquid and drunk, injected or inhaled and may be contained in tablet or capsule form.
Persons in the Templeton area are urged to talk with their children about this drug and it's potentially harmful effects. If you or someone else has ingested the drug, immediate hospital treatment is recommended.
Over two pounds of the substance has been recovered in the Templeton arrest. The person was released on a $100,000.00 bail after being charged with child endangerment and sales of a controlled substance.
If your child experienced similar symptoms during the same period, you are asked to contact sheriff's detectives at 805-540-8911.
