The Sheriff's Office received a call from a local hospital notifying deputies that doctors were treating a victim of a gunshot wound. Deputies determined that a shooting incident had taken place at a residence on Klau Mine Road. One death was confirmed at that location. One other victim was taken to the hospital, was treated and released with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. There is one person in custody. He is identified as 23-year-old John Steven Danner of rural Paso Robles. He is being charged with one count of murder. There are no other suspects outstanding. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. Wardens with California Fish and Wildlife responded to the scene because there was information that live rattlesnakes were located inside the residence. The rattlesnakes have been removed from the residence. Detectives remain at that location and are continuing to interview witnesses and process the crime scene.
