Contact: Brandy SwainPhone: (805) 781-4578Date and time of incident: 1/25/2010Place of Occurrence: Northern San Luis Obispo CountyVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: Unknown The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department is warning the community of a Nigerian Scam involving Craig's List. Deputies report that the scam involves the suspect sending a check for an amount higher than the price negotiated by the seller. The suspect then asks that the seller cash the check, keep an extra $100 for themselves, then send back the remaining via Western Union. The original check is usually a forgery. If you have been contacted by someone using a similar scam, the Sheriff's Department urges you NOT to do any financial dealings with them and report the incident to your local law enforcement agency.
