Door-to-Door Solicitations in Unincorporated Area of SLO County

Perry - Watch CommanderPhone: (805) 781-4553Date and time of incident: OngoingPlace of Occurrence: NipomoVictim Information: Not ReleasedSuspect Information: Vivint Security Systems - Provo,UtahDuring the past week, the Sheriff's Department has received numerous complaints regarding a security system installation and monitoring company engaged in aggressive door-to-door sales in the Nipomo area. Vivint Security Systems company representatives have been contacted and have been advised by this agency that their activity is illegal and that a San Luis Obispo County business license is required pursuant to County Code section 6.24.010 prior to conducting transient merchant operations (door-to-door canvassing) in the unincorporated areas of San Luis Obispo County. Members of the public contacted at their residences by private canvassing salespersons unknown to them are advised to not allow access to their homes. Upon contact by unlicensed private (non-charity) solicitors, the public should decline business transactions and notify the Sheriff's Department for investigation of the company's activities.
