Unexpected Death

Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 8-28-12 1:44 PMPlace of Occurrence: 5080 Santa Rosa Creek RoadVictim Information: Wade Lee Rhoades, 59, CambriaSuspect Information: N/AOn 8-28-12, Cal Fire responded to a brush fire in the 5000 block of Santa Rosa Creek Road in Cambria. The fire was started by a rancher welding corral fencing on the property adjacent to the road. When Cal Fire arrived, they located a 59 year old male who was unresponsive. The man had collapsed on a tractor he had been using to fight the fire prior to the arrival of Cal Fire. Cal Fire crews immediately began medical aid, but efforts to revive him failed. The man has been identified as 59-year-old Wade Lee Rhoades. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Rhoades next of kin have been notified. Manner and cause of death to be determined by San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Coroner investigators. Cal Fire was able to extinguish the fire shortly thereafter. The fire burned less than a quarter of an acre.
