Large black frame glasses, appears to smoke.San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Coast Station deputies are attempting to identify a man who tampered with an ATM unit at the Bank of America on Los Osos Valley Rd in Los Osos early Thursday morning. The suspect attempted to place a "skimmer" attachment to the card area of the ATM unit in order to steal passwords and data to raid accounts of persons using the machine. The B of A machine sensed the tampering and automatically shut down, thereby thwarting the suspects effort. These types of attacks are getting more prevalent as ATM, gas stations and other direct transaction points employ credit and debit card readers. Two still photos will follow that show the suspect and the evidence of the tampering in this case. If you recognize the person in the photo, you are asked to call Deputy Dave Menghrajani at 528-6083 or text SLOTIPS plus your message to CRIMES (274637).
