At 1:30am, after a routine records check of a license plate returned stolen out of Pismo Beach, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle that was traveling at a high speed North on Halcyon towards Highway 1 in Oceano. The stolen Toyota Avalon sped through several red lights and eventually lost control, crashing head-on into a palm tree near the railroad tracks at Highway 1. After the crash, the subject abandoned the vehicle and began running southbound along the railroad tracks, into a creek bed near a trailer park entrance where deputies lost sight of him. At this point additional agencies including Grover Beach Police Department and Arroyo Grande Police Department's canine officer began searching the area for the fleeing subject. It was then that Vergara made himself known to deputies and was taken into custody without further incident. After a complaint of an arm injury, medics arrived and evaluated the suspect. Vergara was later taken to a local hospital for medical clearance and then transported to the San Luis Obispo county jail. Ivan Vergara was booked and charged for the auto theft, reckless driving, and possession of Ecstasy which was discovered while he was being searched by deputies. Ivan is also being held without bail for 3 additional warrants out of Santa Barbara County.
