Vandalism, Assault With a Deadly Weapon

La Quinta Drive in Nipomo. At approximately the same time, the Sheriff's Office began receiving reports of vandalism in the area possibly related to a suspect traveling on a bicycle and threatening residents in the neighborhood. The vandalism consists mainly of broken windows to homes and some damage to cars. As deputies responded they received additional reports of a group of individuals who were fighting with the suspect in the area of 1350 La Loma Drive in Nipomo. The suspect was apprehended by deputies after he was struck in the head by an unknown individual with what appears to be a 2 X 4 piece of wood. The suspect and victim in this case has been identified as 35-year-old Jacob Bernerd of Nipomo. Bernerd was taken to a local hospital where he was diagnosed with a skull fracture. Bernerd is facing charges of arson and vandalism. Anyone with information on the assault of Bernerd is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 781-4550 or Crime Stoppers at 549-STOP. The investigation into these incidents is on-going.
