Contact: Rob BrynPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: January - June 2009Place of Occurrence: County of San Luis ObispoVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: N/ASan Luis Obispo County Sheriff, Pat Hedges released the California Attorney General Preliminary Crime Report on Tuesday, showing an overall reduction in serious crime by 13% over the same period in 2008.
The attorney general's report reflects serious crime in California is down across the state when reviewing homicide, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft. Routine motor vehicle theft is handled by the California Highway patrol, the sheriff investigates motor vehicle theft only when it is part of another offense, such as car jacking.
"We are pleased at the preliminary numbers showing crime is down in the county, however if you have been the victim of a crime it is still unnerving." said Hedges.
"I am concerned that this snapshot does not take into account the new law changes that deal with early release of prison inmates, upcoming staffing reductions and budget matters that will negatively impact our success in the future." Hedges continued.
