Attempted Kidnapping, False Imprisonment, Assault With a Deadly Weapon, Auto Theft

Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781 4547Date and time of incident: 6-27-13, Approximately 10:25 PMPlace of Occurrence: 1800 Block Pippin Lane, See Canyon Victim Information: Female, 17Suspect Information: Brett Allen Edgell, 26, Minneapolis, MN On 6-27-13, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding an attempted kidnapping on Pippin Lane in See Canyon. The caller reported that a man had rammed into their 17-year-old daughter's vehicle, approached her, and told her several times to get into his SUV. The victim ran inside her house, and locked herself inside. The suspect drove off continuing up Pippin Lane. Sheriff's units located the suspect. He then led deputies on a short pursuit. The pursuit ended when the suspect turned his car around and attempted to ram one of the Sheriff's patrol vehicles. His attempt failed and the suspect's vehicle got stuck. Deputies made contact with the suspect. There was a slight struggle. The suspect was taken into custody. He's been identified as 26-year-old Brett Allen Edgell of Minneapolis, MN. The vehicle he was driving was reported stolen out of Nevada. No injuries to the victim. Minor injuries to the deputy and suspect during the struggle. Edgell was booked into County Jail. Edgell is facing charges of attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, felony auto theft, attempting to evade a peace officer in a reckless manner, and resisting arrest. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
