Environmental Clean Up - Marijuana grow

Contact: Rob BrynPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 1-19-11Place of Occurrence: West side of Hwy 101 near Hwy 58.Victim Information: US Forest ServiceSuspect Information: N/ASan Luis Obispo County Sheriff's narcotics detectives, assisted by US Forest Service Rangers and California Air National Guard performed an environmental clean up mission on Wednesday near the West side of Hwy 101 near Hwy 58. The site was previously raided in August of 2010, when law enforcement removed 7000 marijuana plants in the national forest. Today's mission consisted of removing the debris, plastic irrigation pipes and garbage left behind by the original growers.
The Air National Guard provided helicopter support to remove the trash to a landing zone where a debris trailer was standing by to transport the material to the dump.
"Mexican national drug trafficking operation grows do intense environmental damage." said SLOSO Detective Greg Beuer. "We have to go back after the harvest season to the larger forest service areas and do the clean up when we have time and assets available."
The US Forest Service coordinates the clean up operations along with local law enforcement.
