Deputies Brent Rechfertig and Brian Gerimia were in the area of Ducky's restaurant in Cayucos when a call came out that a man had collapsed and CPR was in progress. The deputies arrived, with Dep. Gerimia assuming the CPR role while Dep. Rechfertig deployed the AED. Fire and ambulance arrived shortly after initial use of the AED and took over with the patient being transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. The deputies took the wife of the man and two grandchildren to the hospital where the man was awake and speaking to medical authorities. Both Cayucos Fire and San Luis Ambulance credit the deputies quick response and deployment of the AED with saving the mans life.
