Alternatives to Violence Program Graduation Ceremony

Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 2-9-13, 11:30 AMPlace of Occurrence: Sheriff's Honor Farm, 880 Oklahoma Ave., San Luis ObispoVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: N/AOn 2-9-13, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office in collaboration with Sr. Theresa Harpin/Restorative Partners and volunteers with the local chapter of the Alternatives to Violence Program (AVP) will be holding a graduation ceremony for about a dozen male inmates who have successfully completed Level III of the AVP. These inmates will have completed 60 hours of workshops on alternatives to violence and conflict resolution and will become certified facilitators for future AVP programs. Two men, who graduated recently from the AVP program, have been co-facilitating this current class. The program is designed as a proactive approach to the general issue of violence and assisting inmates in conflict resolution. The graduation ceremony will take place at 11:30 AM at the Men's Honor Farm. For more information contact Lt. Michelle Cole at 788-2103.
