A vehicle description was broadcast and a specially trained crisis negotiator eventually made contact with the distraught woman by cell phone. The negotiator attempted to determine where the subject was and at one point advised field units that it sounded as if the woman was under the influence of drugs and or alcohol and was losing consciousness.
An off duty detective from the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement team (SAFE) was monitoring the radio traffic on his way home and began to search the area of Hwy 1 and Hwy 46 near Cambria. The detective located the woman in her car on Hwy 46 just east of Hwy 1 at 5:28 PM and was able to remove the keys from the car to prevent her from driving away and summoned medical aid to the location.
The woman was transported by ambulance to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment.
