Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 3-30-18, Approximately 6:20 PMPlace of Occurrence: 649 Pier Avenue, OceanoVictim Information: Adult Female, Grover BeachSuspect Information: Mitchell Joseph Davis, 20, Transient from Seattle, WAOn 3-30-18, Deputies were dispatched to a call regarding a confederate flag that was burned in the parking lot of a restaurant at 649 Pier Avenue in Oceano.
The victim says she was inside the restaurant when the incident occurred. The flag was attached to the rear of the victim's pickup truck. Witnesses reported seeing someone light the corner of the flag on fire. A customer at the restaurant put out the fire with a pitcher of water. Witnesses reported the suspect left the area on foot. A search was conducted but authorities were unable to locate the suspect. After reviewing surveillance tape, Deputies were able to get a description of the suspect.
On 3-31-18, at approximately 5:00 PM, Deputies spotted a person who matched the description of the suspect, walking in the same general area of Pier Avenue in Oceano. Twenty-year-old Mitchell Davis from Seattle, WA was detained and then arrested for arson, resisting arrest, giving false identification to a peace officer, and a civil rights violation. Davis was booked in County Jail.
