Suspicious Device

Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781 4547Date and time of incident: 10-31-13, Approximately 11:35 PMPlace of Occurrence: Cayucos PierVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: N/AOn 10-31-13, a San Luis Obispo County Deputy was flagged down by a person who had discovered what looked to be an explosive device underneath a picnic table on the Cayucos Pier. The Deputy evacuated the immediate area, performed a secondary search for any other devices and called in the Bomb Task Force. A Bomb Task Force robot was deployed. Bomb Technicians were able to determine the device was not an explosive but rather a hoax device. The device consisted of three metal tubes with an electronic timer taped to the top connected by several wires. The device will be analyzed as part of the investigation. The Bomb Task Force ended its investigation at approximately 2:30 PM. At that time, those who were evacuated were allowed back into their homes and businesses.
