Contact: Rob BrynPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 4-26/27-2011 Overnight - Reported at 7:30 AM 4-27-11Place of Occurrence: Nipomo High School, Ag Area, 525 N. Thompson, NipomoVictim Information: Nipomo High SchoolSuspect Information: UnknownSan Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Ag Task Force, School Resource deputies and County Health Animal Regulation Control continue to work on the death of 19 turkeys reported yesterday morning at Nipomo High School. At this point necropsies have been conducted on the birds and the puncture wounds appear to be consistent with a predatory attack, most likely a dog(s). Surveillance video from the school does place two dogs near the scene in the early morning hours, and a faulty locking device on the gate to the cage area may have allowed the dogs to enter the confined space.
The investigation continues with further of review of the surveillance video scheduled for tomorrow. More witness interviews are also pending. Human involvement has not as yet been ruled out.
