Burglary - Narcotics - Arrest

A sheriff's deputy conducting a follow-up investigation at the store was tipped off by Wal-Mart security agents that a person leaving the store was a suspect in north county burglaries. The deputy stopped Ricky Andrew Soto when Soto got to his car in the parking lot. Soto was detained on a warrant. Deputies requested a drug sniffing dog and were assisted by a CHP K-9 unit, after deputies smelled the odor of marijuana in the car. Tasha Rose Gambel, the sole passenger in Soto's car was taken into custody after narcotics paraphernalia related to heroin and methamphetamine smoking were located. A tin containing black tar heroin was also found in the vehicle. CHP K-9 detected other drug related items and in the process, property similar to that reported to Atascadero Police were also found. Atascadero PD detectives responded to the scene, confirmed the property and deputies arrested Ricky Soto on drug, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools. Gambel was charged with conspiracy and drug possession. Both were booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail, where Soto remains on $25,000. bail and Gambel was later released on $2000.00 bail.
