The Animal Services Division of the Sheriff’s Department works diligently to serve the public and animals of San Luis Obispo County in a professional and efficient manner with kindness and compassion. The staff is dedicated to providing education, protection, and the humane treatment of animals in order to insure a safe and healthy community and to promote the benefits of responsible pet ownership.


SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE SHELTER:
  • Adoptions

  • Lost & found

  • Quarantines and protective custody

  • Basic health screening and treatment for injured animals

  • Humanely euthanize animals we are unable to place

  • Issue and track dog licenses

  • Maintain accurate records of Animal Services activities

  • Provide our community with educational programs related to the humane treatment of animals, public safety, and responsible pet ownership

  • Work with volunteer groups for animal welfare
  • Investigate complaints and enforce state and local ordinances pertaining to animals

  • Inspect facilities and issue permits to kennels, pet shops, animal breeders and other animal use facilities in the county
