Contact: Aaron NixPhone: (805) 781-4553Date and time of incident: 10/04/12, 1310 hoursPlace of Occurrence: Front Gate Of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power PlantVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: N/AOn 09/04/12 at approximately 1310 hours Sheriff's Deputies were called to the front gate of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant to assist with a distraught woman and a suspicious package. Security personnel at the gate reported that a female adult in a white Chevy truck drove to the gate and engaged them in a verbal dispute over her marital problems with her husband, who she represented was an employee of the plant. Prior to leaving she threw a brown paper bag containing unknown items that had been marked with the words "it's not a bomb" on the front of the bag. She threw the bag and what appeared to be a laptop carry case near the gate kiosk and drove away, then returned a short time later to tell them again there was not a bomb contained in the package. Deputies made contact with the woman and have determined she suffers from mental health issues. As a precautionary measure the front gate of the plant was closed and cordoned off, and members of the SLO County Bomb Task Force were dispatched to the scene to inspect the packages. The Sheriff's Office has no reason to believe this incident presents any danger to the public or the security of the power plant. The estranged spouse of the female suspect is believed to be an electrician who has performed contract work at the power plant at some time in the past.
