The victim had placed her mortgage payment check in the residential mailbox outside her home on 15th Street on November 10th and was later notified by her mortgage company that the payment had not arrived. The victim checked with her bank and determined the check had been altered and cashed at her local branch by the suspect who had apparently changed the check to a new name/amount and was able to pass the check at the bank.
Surveillance photographs of the suspect in the theft will be sent via separate email.
Anyone recognizing the suspect are asked to call sheriff's detectives at 781-4500 or contact Coast Station Dep. McKenney.
Sheriff's Crime Prevention staff urge people to use ink pens that resist check alteration. These pens are available at most local office supply houses.
