Tsunami Preparedness

Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781 4547Date and time of incident: 5-1-15Place of Occurrence: San Luis Obispo County CoastVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: N/AAs we enter the busy beach-going season on the Central Coast, the Sheriff's Task Force on Public Safety is making available Tsunami Preparedness brochures to those residents who live in the coastal communities of San Luis Obispo County and those who visit here. The brochures illustrate how tsunamis are created, where tsunami hazard zones are located, and what steps to take if a tsunami strikes the county coastline.
Deputies will be distributing the brochures to our Sheriff stations located in Los Osos and Oceano as well as to the coastal police departments in Morro Bay, Pismo Beach and Grover Beach, State Parks facilities, fire departments and libraries. The public is invited to pick up a brochure at one of these locations.
San Luis Obispo County experienced a small tsunami in 2011 which led to a large scale evacuation of the coastal areas of the county. It's hoped these brochures will both inform and educate the public to be prepared for any type of tsunami event.
