The victim had driven herself to a local hospital with injuries to her hands, fingers and stomach that investigators believe were caused by a samurai sword. Investigators also believe the suspect threatened the victim with a handgun. Due to the nature of her injuries and information indicating that the suspect was armed, approximately 20 Sheriff's deputies responded to a home in the 600 block of Los Osos Valley Road where the suspect was located. As a safety precaution, Monarch Grove Elementary School was placed in lockdown. Portions of Los Osos Valley Road were also blocked off to traffic. Investigators surrounded the house. At approximately 2:45 PM the suspect came out of the house and was taken into custody without incident. The lockdown at the school ended at approximately 3:30 PM. The suspect was taken to a local hospital with injuries to his leg that investigators believe are the result of the victim defending herself. The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Charles Haig Guenther of Los Osos. Guenther is charged with attempted murder, felony domestic violence, false imprisonment and making felony threats. Due to his stay in the hospital, a booking photo is not available at this time.
