At approximately 9:30 AM, detectives located Munoz in Santa Maria. Munoz, who was wanted for a violation of his parole, was traveling in a car with a female driver identified as 24-year-old Cassandra De Leon of Santa Maria and a female passenger identified as 41-year-old Stacy Araujo of Santa Maria. Investigators tried to stop the car but the driver, De Leon led detectives on a pursuit through Santa Maria. Santa Maria Police officers joined the chase that reached speeds of70 miles per hour through the city. The pursuit ended in Guadalupe when the vehicle eventually pulled over.
