Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 3-12-14, 1:49amPlace of Occurrence: Sierra Vista Medical Center, San Luis ObispoVictim Information: Josey Richard Meche, 28 yo, TransientSuspect Information: N/AOn 3-11-14, Josey Richard Meche was booked into the County Jail at approximately 11:26 PM by San Luis Obispo Police on a charge of resisting arrest. When Meche arrived at the jail he had no complaint of any medical condition and was cooperative with correctional staff. Approximately an hour later on 3-12-14, jail staff discovered Meche unresponsive on the floor of his cell, and responded with medical aid including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an automatic electronic defibrillator (AED). Meche was the sole occupant in the cell. Meche was transported by ambulance to Sierra Vista Medical Center where he died a short time later. The Coroner is investigating Meche's death and an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. Next of kin has been notified. No further information is available at this time.
