Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781 4547Date and time of incident: 7-10-14, Approximately 8:00 AMPlace of Occurrence: Turkey Flats area, Near PozoVictim Information: Rodney Allan Hill, 48, CrestonSuspect Information: N/AOn 7-10-14, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office received a call about a man who was reported missing after going dirt bike riding alone in the Turkey Flats area of the county near Pozo. Sheriff's Deputies immediately responded to the area and began searching for the man identified as Rodney Hall of Creston. His vehicle was located, but there was no sign of Hall.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Search and Rescue (SLOSAR) team was activated and began searching the area. Team members used ATV's and four-wheel drive vehicles to search the remote area which is noted for its steep drop-offs and rugged terrain.
SAR members searched for approximately three hours before spotting Hall at approximately 8:00 AM in the nearby Navajo Flats area. Hall had injured his clavicle but otherwise appeared to be okay. Hall had apparently been riding his motorcycle in a dry river bed when he had an accident which threw him from the bike, causing his injuries. Hall says he had hiked for about five miles from the scene of the accident before being rescued by SAR.
While this outcome was successful, the Sheriff's Office wants to remind riders they should never ride alone in remote areas like this and always tell someone the location of where they are riding.
