The man is identified as 57-year-old Rene Baltazar Monterrosa of Santa Maria. Monterrosa is the kayaker who went missing on October 8 in the waters off Cayucos. A search was conducted at that time, but Monterrosa was not found.
On 10-21-17, the Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call about a body which had been discovered washed up on the beach near Cayucos. Coroner Investigators identified the body and notified next of kin. No foul play is suspected.
