This year there will be four GREAT camps for elementary and middle school children. The first will be held June 17 through 21 at Lillian Larsen Elementary School in San Miguel. The GREAT (Gang Resistance Education and Training) program is a violence prevention program taught by trained law enforcement officers. The summer camps are free and provide fun activities and games while teaching children how to avoid taking part in bullying, violence and gangs. On June 17, Sheriff Ian Parkinson will be there at 9 AM to welcome all the kids to the camp. The media is invited to attend this event or make arrangements to visit the camp during the week.
