Nico was assigned to Deputy Steve Faeth on 12-5-2011 and medically retired from the force on 2-1-2014 due to seizures associated with canine epilepsy.
Sheriff Parkinson, the Sheriff's Honor Guard, Sheriff's K9's and their handlers and K9's from other law enforcement agencies in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County were in attendance.
A final resting place on a hillside overlooking the Sheriff's Office has been created for Nico and other K9's who dedicate their lives in the service of the Sheriff's Office.
