San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Dept. South station deputies on patrol came across a suspicious device on Friday morning that was found burning near the duck pond area in Oceano. The pond is located near Norswing and Pershing.
The deputies extinguished the small fire and found what appeared to be a home made explosive devise made from a can wrapped in cloth. Inside the can was what appeared to be a pipe bomb. Bomb Task Force deputies responded to safely handle the item and later detonated the suspected explosive at approximately 5:30 AM.
Persons are remained not to touch or attempt to defuse any item they find that appears to be a homemade explosive or incendiary device.
Possession, use, manufacture or sale of explosive devices are punishable by terms in state prison.
