A San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Dive Team member recovered a severed thumb on Sunday after a freak accident at the Lake Nacimiento boat launch ramp.
A recreational boater was approaching the dock and placed his hand out to stop his craft from striking the dock. One of the victim's thumbs apparently was caught between the rim of the boat and the side of the dock, causing an amputation.
The injured man was transported to Twin Cities Community Hospital by ambulance while a dive team member entered the water, located the thumb and then transported it to the hospital.
It is not known if the thumb was able to be reattached.
