An Atascadero couple are in custody on attempted murder charges in San Luis Obispo County Jail after a verbal argument in an Avila Beach bar. Michael Darrien Simmons and Janet Ella Simmons were both arrested by Sheriff's deputies after a male subject and Michael Simmons began arguing. Simmons later allegedly slashed the victim with a box cutter causing a serious wound to the victim's neck. Responding deputies were able to detain Simmons and his wife. The victim was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where he received multiple stitches. The weapon was recovered on Janet Simmons person during the booking process at county jail. Janet Simmons was booked on attempted murder, conspiracy and drunk in public. She is in custody on $500,000.00 bail. Michael Simmons remains in custody also charged with attempted murder. His bail is set at $500,000.00. The victim is expected to recover from his wounds.
